Extensive External Coatings to Collection Tanks

CRL were appointed to carry out repairs and coatings to these two preload effluent collection tanks.

These tanks are circular preload tanks with wire wound stressing bands over their full height. The tanks were in reasonable condition but there was extensive cracking to the spray concrete overlay to the stressing bands.

The works carried out included concrete repairs to the external skin where required and the application of an elastomeric anticarbonation coating to the whole of the external surface.

This coating transformed the external appearance of the tanks from a drab concrete finish to a clean easily maintained finish with the additional benefit of affording an effective protective coating that will aid in preventing further degradation of the concrete.

All works were carried out by CRL operatives from a purpose built scaffold that surrounded the tanks allowing all works to be carried out in sequence without interruption.

"Having carried out a concrete condition survey of the 2 No. preload, open topped, effluent tanks at Airds Point on the Solway firth, we found the tendons which were housed in discrete bands to be in good condition.
Local repairs and protective coatings were applied externally, whilst the tanks remained operational to extend the service life for a further 25-years."
