Iconic structure repaired 'on time & within budget'

The £1.44m refurbishment of the the 1,160 space, seven storey MSCP attached to Dolphin Shopping Centre for the Borough of Poole was completed in twenty-seven weeks in November 2017. The car park remained fully operational 24/7 during the complex and challenging refurbishment, which transformed the car park into a vibrant parking facility serving the shopping Centre and local theatre.

CRL were able to use innovative engineering solutions to deliver cost savings for the delivery of this scheme and on-going maintenance. The concrete frame was repaired, coatings applied to enhance durability, improving the aesthetics, and enhance personal safety. A new intelligent LED lighting system was designed and installed by our in-house electrical division, Equilux which significantly enhanced the lighting to meet current standards whilst reducing energy consumption by over 80%.

The carefully selected high quality materials used throughout the project allowed a fast flowing programme minimising duration on-site. Each level took 4 weeks to complete, from initial cleaning and preparation works, through to survey, full electrical lighting replacement, repairs, decorations and deck coating application.

CRL selected a rapid curing, Triflex PMMA DCS-C system to all 21,000m2, incorporating a quartz anti-slip finish throughout. Each level has its only distinct colour scheme applied to parking bays, which is reflected through into communal pedestrian areas. Clearly defined pedestrian routes were introduced with additional disabled and parent and child bays meeting DDA requirements. External façade areas were repaired and coated with the selected Dolphin Blue colour scheme, inviting customers to enter the Centre.

A new low output wireless 'smart system' electrical LED lighting system was designed, installed and commissioned. The works involved the replacement of all electrical components and containment. Anticipated energy savings of at least 80% are predicted providing a payback of the initial installation costs within 4 years.

"Overall, as a client, we are delighted with the results of this scheme, so much so that we are now looking to secure the funding to enable us to carry out similar refurbishments on two of our other town centre car parks."
