A team from our Highways Division recently spent four days working at a local school in Walsall, which is located close to our Oldbury site and where the Highways team is currently based.

The works took place over 2 visits, in June and early August, and the focus was to enhance the school’s playground facilities and create a safer and more enjoyable environment for the children.

A team of 12 CRL staff members, along with our supply chain partners, took part in this initiative, clearing vegetation, casting a new slab, repainting the fencing and sheds to give the playground a fresh and vibrant new look, and repairing a brick wall to ensure its stability and safety.

One of the bigger tasks was addressing a hazardous section of the playground. The area, previously slabbed with broken and uneven paving slabs, had been coned off for safety reasons, rendering it unusable for the children. We removed the damaged slabs and resurfaced the area with concrete, creating a smooth and safe surface for the children to play on.

CRL also took this opportunity to engage with the school community by involving the teachers and students. This not only helped us to understand their needs and preferences but also fostered a sense of collaboration.

The feedback from the school has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their gratitude for the improvements. Thanks to the collective efforts, the playground is now a fun and secure environment, greatly benefiting the children.

This project improved the school's facilities, whilst at the same time strengthening our community ties, and demonstrating CRL’s  commitment to improving the lives of the people in the areas that we operate.

We are proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our team and supply chain, and we look forward to undertaking more opportunities like this in the future to enable us to make a positive impact in our local communities.
