Bringing Heart to the Community: CRL Volunteers at Birmingham Mind’s Beechcroft Hub

At CRL, we believe that maintaing infrastructure means more than just preserving assets, it means building stronger, healthier communities. That belief came to life last week when our team joined forces with National Highways and our supply chain partners to volunteer at Birmingham Mind’s Beechcroft Hub in Erdington.

Located just a stone’s throw from our M6 Gravelly Hill Box Beams project, the Beechcroft Hub is one of the many spaces where Birmingham Mind offers essential mental health services. Since 1962, the charity has been providing life-changing support across the city through safe spaces, supported accommodation, and community hubs where individuals can find the care, connection, and dignity they deserve.

We were proud to roll up our sleeves and give something back to such a vital organisation. From laying new turf and paving paths to painting planters, building benches, and creating a peaceful raised area for rest and reflection, our volunteers worked together to revitalise the Hub’s outdoor garden space. What was once a tired and underused area has been transformed into a place of calm and colour, a space where visitors and staff can relax and recharge.

It was a true team effort, and a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. Our work is about more than structures, it’s about people. Being part of a project that helps to improve mental wellbeing and enhance a sense of community is something we’re incredibly proud of.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Birmingham Mind for the incredible work they do every day, and to our partners including Pickerings, whose support made this day of volunteering possible.

This project may have been small in scale, but the impact, and the sense of purpose, was enormous. At CRL, we’re committed to building with care, with community, and always with heart.
